The Lebanese Observatory for Agricultural Development (L.O.A.D) is funded by the Italian Cooperation and executed technically by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O). The national counterpart body is the Ministry of Agriculture represented by the Directorate of Studies and Coordination.
L.O.A.D. is a tool for decision-making constituting a capacity of compilation as well as of analysis of the Information related to the agricultural and rural sector. It has a catalyst role in supporting the formulation, follow-up, monitoring and evaluation of agricultural development programmes and projects and in providing adequate supervision and advice for their implementation and execution to be in line with the Lebanese agricultural strategy and policy.
Furthermore, L.O.A.D. is set out to gather initiatives from the public and private sectors and from the Professional Organization involved in the agricultural sector, to bring them together, benefit from their synergies ensuring data sharing and exchange and establishing networking with similar implemented observatories.
L.O.A.D. will empower creating and consolidating dialogue, coordination and participation between all stakeholders involved in the agricultural sector. The expected outputs of the Observatory are:
- The Observatory legal aspects and management structure are established;
- A Data Base Unit for the production and management of agricultural statistical data is maintained, strengthened and operational;
- A support unit which will contribute to the studies related to the agricultural strategy and policy of the Ministry of Agriculture is operational;
- Dialogue, internal and external partnerships are promoted.
